Making Devices Smaller, Brighter, and More Bendy

Article Abstract:

At the 1998 annual meeting of the Materials Research Society. Sam Stupp of the University of Illinois reported the production of semiconductor films with holes placed scant nanometers away from each other. The films could have a wide variety of uses. Other highlights included the development of new light emitting elements from plastic that may replace liquid crystal displays.

Chemical Industry Rushes Toward Greener Pastures

Article Abstract:

Howard Schneiderman, who took over at research head at Monsanto in 1979, began to steer the company away from petrochemicals and plastics, and toward genetic engineering. Wiggling and Undulating Out Of an X-ray Shortage

Article Abstract:

The use of x-ray machines in research and its importance in this field is noted. Scientists, along with chemists and biologists make use of these machines to view structures of complex proteins as well as the behavior of chemicals and molecules. The power of synchrotron beams has made viewing a lot easier and its effectiveness is noted.
