Article Abstract:
Abbott Laboratories is trying to find ways to prevent metastasis. The discovery that the enzyme urokinase helps cancer cells to invade normal tissues will aid in further research of how blood-clotting is related to cancer spread.

Relative lightweights: plastics replace silica to make lower-cost aerogels

Lawrence Livermore Laboratory scientist Richard W. Pekala created an aerogel that is made of monomers instead of the more expensive silica. The aerogels provide insulation and store electricity better than other capacitors.
