Modeling competitive cation exchange of aromatic amines in water-saturated soils

Article Abstract:

Soil samples from Toronto, Chalmers, and Drummers, Indiana are exposed to 1-aminonaphthalene and aniline and evaluated for soil-water phase distribution of the aromatic amines with a distributed parameter model and a discrete two-site model. Aniline and 1-aminonaphthalene solute ratios are graphed for the three sites.

3,3'-dichlorbenzidine transformation processes in natural sediments

Article Abstract:

A study of the natural anaerobic tranformation processes of 3,3'-dichlorobenzidine (DCB) showed that the compound is transformed into its more toxic form, benzidine. Sediments used in the experiment were derived from Lake Macatawa in Holland, MI injected with DCB, and incubated at 20 degrees C under unaerobic conditions for 12 months. The formation of benzidine without any evidence of metabolites in the sediment may have been due to microbial transformation of the compound. The result has serious implications in the transport of aromatic amines in aquatic systems.

Modelling short-term soil-water distribution of aromatic amines

Article Abstract:

A distributed parameter model for aniline and alpha-naphthylamine description in soil and water is found to be effective in measuring isotherms. The model computes two unknown values in two non-linear equations and was evaluated on a sample of three Indian soils for alpha-naphthylamine and aniline isotherms. Calculated isotherms were in general agreement with those generated by the model.
