The structure of photolyase: using photon energy for DNA repair

Article Abstract:

The crystal structure has been determined for photolyase, the enzyme that controls photoreactivation. The process uses exposure to near-UV light to prevent damage to DNA caused by far-UV light. The photoreactivation mechanism is described and background research is reviewed.
