Trash study creates a stir, but little action

Article Abstract:

An EPA study published in Febuary 2000 revealed that open barrel garbage burning, often referred to as backyard burning, emits disproportionately high levels of dioxins compared to professionally operated waste incinerators. But state regulators, environmental groups, and commercial interests have done little in response.

EPA to make PBT screening available

Article Abstract:

The United States Environmental Protection Agency will make available persistence, bioaccumulation, and toxicity (PBT) screening on a new website. The PBT Profiler makes use of various models and databases to screen for PBT, and offers solutions for pollution prevention. To protect business privacy, the website will be secure.

NIOSH study of chemical workers bolster data on dioxin as cancer agent

Article Abstract:

Results from a study conducted by researchers from the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health shows that chemical workers exposed to dioxin has a 60% chance of dying from cancer.
