Nanoindentation measurements on low-k porous silica thin films spin coated on silicon substrates

Article Abstract:

Low-K porous silica thin films spin coated on silicon substrate are studied and the roughness of the spin on coated porous silica films is analyzed with in-situ imaging and their mechanical properties are determined using nanoindentation. The mechanical properties of thin film generally depend on material structure, deposition conditions, film thickness and substrate type and furthermore, the penetration depth of nanoindentation influences the measured mechanical properties of thin films to a certain degree.

On the mechanical response in a thermal barrier system due to martensitic phase transformation in the bond coat

Article Abstract:

The effect the martensitic transformation in the bond coat has on the development of morphological instabilities in a class of thermal barrier systems is investigated by utilizing a numerical scheme. The martensitic transformation in the bond coat gives rise to a complex non-linear mechanical behavior of thermal barrier coating, sometimes with unexpected results.

Influence of alpha casing on superplastic deformation of Ti-6Al-4V

Article Abstract:

The effect of alpha casing on the mechanical properties of T1-6Al-4V alloy, an oxygen barrier coating was applied prior to superplastic forming and tensile test at elevated temperature. The study enhances the life of titanium based aerospace engines which operate at elevated and which are prone to alpha case formation.
