Nations seek "fair" greenhouse gas treaty in Kyoto

Article Abstract:

A number of issues will concern participants at the Dec 1997 meeting in Kyoto, Japan, that will address the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. Developing countries currently have the fastest growth in carbon emissions, but they are reluctant to entire into a binding international agreement until industrialized countries agree to curb their emissions. Participants are in agreement that meeting basic human needs is directly correlated with the ability of developing nations to effect a reduction in emissions. Business groups in are also concerned about the impact of agreements made in Kyoto.

Hungry Herbivores Seek a Warmer World

Article Abstract:

The ecological balance between plants and herbivores is a complex one. Herbivore populations have been kept in check by the chemical defenses of plants and parasites, and by the evolutionary history of the relationship between plants and animals. Current concerns over climate change and how those changes might influence that relationship have led to new research.
