New compounds make light of pests
Article Abstract:
Scientists are developing insecticides containing chemical dyes as replacements for Malathion in controlling Mediterranean and Mexican fruit flies. The dyes, which are light sensitive, become toxic in the translucent gut of insects but do not harm mammals, fish or birds.

Polymer light-emitters gain new life
Article Abstract:
A UNIAX Corp research team has developed a new design for polymer light-emitting diodes (LEDs) called light-emitting electrochemical cells (LECs). LECs require less energy than LEDs and have longer shelf life.
