Article Abstract:

Recycled plastics are now being used in new cars to save energy. The car's total energy cost includes manufacturing, operation (88% of total cost), and recycling credit. Thermoset plastics are used in bumper systems, seats, restraint systems, and dashboards; recycling and using these plastics for other components as well can make a car 175 kg lighter. It takes 5,200 MJ of energy to do so, but the car will use 53,000 MJ less in its operating life.

Telecommunications and computer services in the Canada-US Free Trade Agreement (FTA)

Article Abstract:

Contrary to popular Canadian fears, the US-Canada Free Trade Agreement did not destroy Canada's ability to make political decisions independently of the economic interests of the US. Other countries that wish to liberalize communications policies would do well to decide exactly what their own telecommunications priorities are, so that they will know just what they are willing to deregulate.

The sum of the parts: the lucrative trade in animal parts is bad business for BC's bears

Article Abstract:

The rampant bear parts poaching in North America is reaching alarming proportions due to the helplessness of authorities in controlling this practice. It is hoped that the passage of bills and the strict enforcement of regulations will save these endangered bears from total extinction.
