New silicon tricks: carbon could boost the speed of silicon chips

Latest microcircuit research points to the development of germanium-carbon mix in chips to correct acute current loss problems of chips. Some are determining the feasibility of the new chips while other are questioning the economic viability of these parts.

The experience of Hurricanes Andrew and Floyd has led some observers to believe that global warming may be bringing about stronger, more destructive hurricanes. This has led to the additional concern that such a hurricane might strike a major city.
