Not your father's strain gauge

Article Abstract:

Strain Monitor Systems Inc. (SMS) has developed an innovative strain gauge to measure the structural soundness of bridges and buildings in a cheaper, easier way. The tool does not gauge the onset of structural failures but measures the steady progression in a structure's deterioration before they require expensive repair or replacement. SMS's strain gauges are passive in direct contrast to their active, conventional counterparts, and are not viable for long-term structural tracking.

Survey reveals changing attitudes about what it takes to succeed in business

Article Abstract:

A survey conducted by Graham Communications on 500 custom builder firms yielded some surprising insights into the drivers of the industry. A majority of the respondents claim that 'image' was most important for a company to be successful in the sector, with leadership coming at second and marketing, reputation and finance coming in at third. The survey also showed a growing number of custom builders investing in computers as well as establishing a Web site to promote their services.
