China's population grows despite fertility decline

Article Abstract:

China's population is still growing at an exponential rate despite government attempts to slow it down. Chinese women have around two children today, four less than they did in the 1970s and two less than women in developed countries. Even so, China's population will still grow by 14 million every year because it is so large. It must continue to encourage one-child families to further restrict population expansion because its society's future welfare will otherwise be at risk.

Future energy innovation grows from today's R&D

Article Abstract:

Energy conservation efforts have slowed down since the 1970s due to the low cost of energy and fading concerns about a possible energy shortage. Increased competition and deregulation in the energy sector have also reduced investments in programs that promote energy conservation and the development of energy efficient technologies. However, it is argued that sustained energy efficiency rests on government and industry support for technological research and development.
