Old-growth bears

Article Abstract:

Black bears on the coast of British Columbia in Canada have been discovered to prefer to hibernate in ancient tree cavities during winter. With rain pummelling the area during the season, black bears look for dens that are warm, dry and secure where they can sleep through the winter.

Turning the tide

Article Abstract:

Bounday Bay in Vancouver, British Columbia, was granted protected status on June 22, 1995. However, the bay is merely a fraction of the Fraser River delta ecosystem that is being threatened by dyking, agricultural development and urbanization.

Sea anemones are those beatiful plant-like organisms inhabiting many tide pools and shallow beaches. Their plant-like appearance stems from the numerous appendages used for catching prey, such as zooplanktons.
