Optimization of sulfur impregnation protocol for fixed-bed application of activated carbon-based solvents for gas-phase mercury removal

Article Abstract:

The efficiency of novel sulfur-impregnated activated carbons (HGR) for vapor phase mercury uptake have been found to increase with temperature and that sulfur form influences chemisorption process rather than total sulfur content. The HGR was used with nitrogen as the carrier gas to determine factors affecting uptake of vapor phase elemental mercury uptake and results also show that large surface areas and large fractions of mesopores contribute to excellent removal efficiencies.

Partitioning and transport of total and methyl mercury in the Lower Fox River, Wisconsin

Article Abstract:

The transport of total and methyl mercury in the Lower Fox River in Wisconsim was shown to be consistent with the downstream current, as evidenced in the mercury concentrations in the water and sediment samples. Mercury in the Fox River is believed to be a function of sediment transport, with resuspended sediment accounting for the variations in mercury concentrations along the length of the river.

Comparison of three methods of estimating atmospheric mercury deposition

Article Abstract:

The weekly integrated bulk deposition collection, weekly integrated automatic rain collection and manual, event-based techniques for estimating atmospheric mercury deposition were comparatively evaluated. The results showed that there was generally good agreement between the three bulk collector types. However, the mean volume-weighted mercury concentrations varied among all three methods.
