Out of Africa, into Asia: controversial DNA studies link Asian hunter-gatherers to African pygmies
Article Abstract:
DNA samples taken from people of the Andaman Islands in the Bay of Bengal suggest that they could be descendants of the first humans to leave Africa into Asia. The mtDNA fragments of Andamanese individuals were found to be similar to the mtDNA of southern African pygmies.

Stalking the wild dugong: an undersea elephant remains elusive

The wild dugong of the Andaman Islands in India, is fast approaching extinction due to habitat destruction. Dugongs depend on a diet of seagrass, which is being wiped out by siltation, thinning out the population of the dugong.
