Partial hyperbolic-tangent friction element based phenomenological models for shape memory alloy pseudoelastic hysteretic

Article Abstract:

A new mechanism based phenomenological model for SMAs to better simulate experimental hysteresis data is developed using a partial hyperbolic tangent friction element. The new model does not require complex calculation of austenite-martensite phase transformations, and the mechanical analogies provided a strong physical basis and clear relationships could be established between the unlocking of the friction element and the occurrence of phase transformation.

Numerical and experimental evaluation of the damping properties of shape-memory alloys

Article Abstract:

Two uniaxial rate dependent constitutive models capable of reproducing the superelastic effect of SMAs and able to take into account the different elastic properties between austenite and martensite are compared. It is observed that the advantages of the presented models are the simplicity, the possibility of implementing a robust solution algorithm and the ability to reproduce experimental data obtained at different frequency levels of excitation.
