Pedestrian crossing spans Gatwick taxiway

Article Abstract:

The project was undertaken to build a bridge using structural steel whose central beam, extends longitudinally beneath the deck and will be the longest such structure in the world improving the facilities for both airlines and travelers at the London's Gatwick Airport. The bridge will connect the north terminal to the Pier 6 as part of an expansion project designed to accommodate more than 40 million travelers that will be using the airport each year by 2011.

Hollow steel tubes form graceful bridge

Article Abstract:

The design and details of a new innovative bridge using hollow tubes in the city of Edinburgh, United States is presented. The new bridge replaces the old one with glass roof and uses prefabricated steel with circular hollow sections on the inside and spirals outside reminding of DNA's helical structure.
