Article Abstract:

Robotics researchers have developed and trained robots to be utilized in the mechanical football competition which will be held on Jul, 1998 in the La cite de Sciences de la Vilette in Paris, France. The robots, which will play in the competition, shall be programmed for total autonomous manipulations. It means that no instructions will be received from the sidelines during the competition proper. The robot competition provides insights on how system integration functions.

Breaking waves

Article Abstract:

The yacht 'BMW performance' was sailed by Pete Goss in the 1996 Vendee Globe around the world race. The yacht features an innovative swinging keel design which rises as the boat tilts to provide increased righting moment. Goss has also designed the new 'Goss Challenger' catamaran for another round the world race which starts at midnight on Dec 31, 2000. The catamaran design is based on the Very Slender Vessel concept used for military vessels.

Into thin air: Many companies are pouring money out of their compressed air systems

Article Abstract:

UK industry is estimated to waste 100 million pounds sterling a year in its compressed air systems, according to Norgren, a pneumatic component manufacturer. The pneumatics industry and its customers have only recently become aware of possible savings from careful control of air use. Norgren offers seminars to educate maintenance engineers about reducing wastage in compressed air systems.
