Progress in chemical admixtures: where are we?
Article Abstract:
Considerable advances have been achieved in concrete technology, although these innovations pale in comparison when compared to what has been achieved in the steel and plastics industries. It is also disheartening to note that these advances were made possible by technologies from other industries. The construction industry should start transforming itself and achieve a faster rate of innovation to develop and improve building materials like concrete with increased sophistication.

Biotreatment to neutralize chemical weapons stockpile
Article Abstract:
The EPA and Maryland Environment Dept have approved a plan to dispose of over 1,600 tons of mustard agent stored at the Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD, by dumping the lot into hot water then subsequently treating it with bacteria found in municipal wastewater. The cost of the project has been estimated at about $600 million. The treatment will cost 10% more than the conventional method of disposal that is used, which is incineration.

The right Tooele for the job: The U.S. will destroy its entire chemical weapons stockpile by 2006
Article Abstract:
The Tooele Chemical Agent Disposal Facility in Utah has been designed to destroy more than one weapon at a time, and will destroy 42.3% of the US Army's chemical weapons. An on site incineration facility eliminates the risk of transporting weapons to more centralized facilities. The program goal of the Program Manager Chemical Demilitarization is to destroy the whole stockpile by 2004.
