Article Abstract:

The San Joaquin Hills Transportation Corridor in California received the American Society of Civil Engineers' 1997 Outstanding Civil Engineering Award of Merit. The 15-mile toll road, which opened in late 1996, cuts hour-long drives to less than 20 minutes during peak periods and features 58 new bridges, 10 interchanges and 11 toll plazas. The project was also financed through nonrecourse toll-revenue bonds and state funds rather than federal funds.

California refines design/build transportation scheme

Article Abstract:

Orange County, CA's Transportation Corridor Agency is enhancing its design-and-build contract for the Foothill South highway project. A design team will finish between 30% to 35% of the road design before giving a final cost estimate for the project. The road project, which is estimated to cost $644 million, will stretch between North Irvin and San Clemente, before running to Los Angeles, parallel with Interstate 5.

Israeli toll road project relies on finance/design/build/operate contract

This article discusses construction of a first toll road in Israel incorporating all-electronic toll system. The highway is 87 kilometer long near Tel Aviv and the tolling technology is developed by Raytheon Systems company, Fullerton, California.
