Article Abstract:

Rover has launched its new 400 Series cars that are priced between 11,795 and 15,945 pound sterling and the company aims to reach a production target of 200,00 cars per year. Several innovations have been made in the car design and manufacturing system, the most important being to enhance the use of sub-assemblies, basically to decrease the number of assemblies on the production line. Moreover, after the time the body is designed, each model is built against a specific customer order. These cars are the last to be produced jointly by Rover and Honda.

There is an urgent need to improve pay structures and incorporate rewards such as team bonuses to encourage teamwork and enhance productivity. Concepts such as team pay initiates group improvement of work practices, enhances flexibility and responsiveness whereas individual merit pay causes individual competition and decreases flexibility. Teamworking leads to streamlining of organizational structures and better production quality.
