Slip sliding away

Article Abstract:

Test facilities of Delphi Automotive Systems at Arjeplog, Sweden and Michigan enable research on vehicle stability at extreme cold weather conditions. The Arjeplog facility has an engineering center which provides workshops and other services for testing operations. Each auto testing company at Arjeplog has designated research areas on the frozen Lake Hornavan. The facility at Kinross, Michigan, has similar test surfaces. Delphi's stability enhancement system Traxxar, and the Galileo family of brake-by-wire braking systems are discussed.

Data capture

Article Abstract:

The DA-m Multianalysers are portable vehicle test lab systems that provide termination, signal conditioning, data storage, display and other features. The DA-m systems run the OptiMal software, capable of analysis and acquisition. The systems find applications in vehicle spoilers, bearing wear and brake lock. While analyzing brake blocks, OptiMal provides plots of frictional coefficient against temperature in engineering units. Finding the optimum spoiler position in analyzing road grip is discussed.

Mini stays mum

Article Abstract:

Rover Group Ltd. has developed two minicar models in the Mini and Mini Cooper brands. The vehicles' primary advantages are power train engineering benefits and the driver's airbag, which was previously thought impossible for the car. The models' modified A-Series 63P engines were designed to comply with European and Japanese drive-by noise and emission standards up to year 2000.
