What direction for U.S. senate environmental policy?

Article Abstract:

Sen. Robert Smith (R-NH ), the new chair of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, is proposing the transfer of more environmental legislation to the different states. The Environmental Protection Agency will have to account for all expenses and be forced to reevaluate the proposal to restore the Everglades in Florida.

Environmental security: An evolving concept

Article Abstract:

Researchers have known of the link between environmental health and national security for many years, and now United States government agencies are undertaking efforts to bolster both concerns. Investigators are further studying the link between environmental catastrophe and violent conflicts. North Atlantic Treaty Organization and Environmental Protection Agency interests, as well as the example of Iran, are discussed.

Sound science, regulatory review, top list as new Congress convenes

Article Abstract:

Republican congressional leaders, as the 105th Congress convenes, promise to take a more bipartisan approach to the reform of environmental laws. The Republicans, who insisted on wide-scale changes to the government's environmental program, intend to review more closely the regulatory decisions of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). They will make full use of the Small Business Regulatory Enforcement Fairness Act to review and veto major environmental regulations.
