The Institute evaluates and schedules over 500 requests a year for time on the Hubble Space Telescope. Astronomers' research is hindered by lack of first-hand observation, waits of up to six months for each trial, and glitches in telescope hardware and scheduling software.

Scientists chase gravity's rainbow

Astrophysicists are trying to use maps of cosmic radiation to identify the traces of gravity waves caused by the Big Bang upheaval. Implications for inflation theory and cosmology are discussed.
