Stable environmental industry continues consolidation

Article Abstract:

Consolidation was rampant although there was little growth in the environmental industry in 1997. Farkas Berkowitz and Co stated in its annual report entitled 'State-of-the-Industry Report' that the trend was caused by the industry's move to find access to a wider range of services. The report also declared that while in 1995 the environmental consulting and remediation market controlled only 20% of the market, by 1996 they already had control of 40% of the market signifying the disappearance of medium-sized firms.

Environmental exposure

Article Abstract:

Contractors and engineers should integrate risk management strategies and provide employees with sufficient training and information related to environmental liability to avoid disaster. The first step in confronting the legal issues is recognizing the reality of environmental risks. Second is offering training to workers so they can respond to emergency environmental situations. Third is to ensure that contract terms include indemnification that address environmental concerns.
