Status of the Department of Energy

Article Abstract:

Both a General Accounting Office (GAO) and an independent task force have produced reports that find serious management deficiencies in the Energy Dept (DOE) and its laboratories. Micromanagement of the DOE labs is a key problem identified in the task force report. Congress may seek sweeping DOE reform.

Sustainable agriculture and the 1995 Farm Bill

Article Abstract:

Sustainable agriculture was a major issue at the Jan 1995 symposium on the 1995 Farm Bill sponsored by the Council for Agricultural Science and Technology. Some aspects of federal agricultural policy clash with principles of sustained agriculture.

Preparing children for the future

Article Abstract:

The US needs to improve its educational system to compete in the international marketplace, where technology is of increasing importance. A report on necessary changes recommends more parental involvement and improved TV programming for children.
