Quenching Chicago's thirst: the waterworks of Ellis S. Chesbrough
Article Abstract:
A tunnel drawing water from Lake Michigan into Chicago was constructed from 1964-1866. Construction of the waterworks system involved building of a shaft extending friom the city to the lake, a pumping station, and a water tower housing a standpipe.
