Superfund research program threatened by Congress, EPA

Article Abstract:

EPA's plans to place the Superfund Basic Research Program (SBRP) under its wings is threatening the future of the program, which funds research centers supporting Superfund projects. Sources from the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, which administers SBRP, believe that EPA wants to manage the program to retain its research budget within the agency.

States, ASTM developing standards for voluntary cleanups

Article Abstract:

States and a group led by the American Society for Testing and Materials are devising standards for voluntary cleanup of hazardous wastes while protecting health and the environment. Voluntary cleanup legislation is already being enacted in two states, Ohio and Pennsylvania, which are also developing methods for site-specific risk assessment.

Pollution monitoring should get personal, scientists say

Scientists who attended the joint annual meeting of the International Society for Exposure Analysis and the International Society of Environmental Epidemiology signed a consensus statement for a more personal approach in the monitoring of pollution levels and how it directly affect humans.
