The gem of Georgia: Gulf Islands National Park Reserve

Article Abstract:

The Gulf Islands National Park Reserve is Canada's newest national park, which is fragmented across 45 islands. Some of the best remaining examples of relatively undisturbed Douglas fir, arbutus and Garry oak ecosystems are protected here and it contains the highest number of species at risk of any park in the system.

Compensation for kills

Article Abstract:

Gloria Goulet from Riding Mountain began the Livestock Predation Compensation fund in 1995 to make the agricultural community refrain from shooting wolves due to suspicion. Increased tolerance of the agricultural community will be developed upon learning the availability of compensation.

Uneasy neighbors: can national parks and timber harvesting get along?

Article Abstract:

The encroachment of timber companies in a number of Canadian national parks has threatened the diversity of the forest ecosystem. But one optimistic note is that a number of timber companies are embracing sustainable timber harvesting method that may soon stop threathening the forests.
