Canny cuckoos & wily wrens
Article Abstract:
A female cuckoo quietly observes the nest-building activities of her chosen 'host' species from a discrete distance and memorize the location of all the nests in the area. Superb Fairy-wrens are the only hosts that can recognize impostor chicks in their nests by using a combination of cues including whether the chick is alone in the nest and the accuracy of its begging call.
