Trinitrotoluene and metabolites binding to humic acid
Article Abstract:
A study aimed at examining the dependence of trinitrotoluene (TNT) and metabolites binding on several affecting factors is presented. The TNT's binding activity with dissolved humic acid (HA) is observed through a series of experiments that included equilibrium dialysis and HPLC quantification. The results of the experiments suggested that the binding between pollutants TNT to HA at different levels are governed by several factors such as pH, ionic strength, ligand structure, temperature, and incubation time.

Field evaluation of an electrochemical probe for in situ screening of heavy metals in groundwater
Article Abstract:
An electrochemically-based system for analyzing heavy metal content in groundwater is a rapid, low-cost and alternative method to costly and inefficient methods such as atomic absorption, induced coupled plasma, and fluorimetry. The new system, which uses a laptop computer with a probe consisting of a sensor and potentiostat, was tested at a contaminated landfill of the Hanscom Air Force Base in Bedford, MA. Results reveal that the in situ probe to be a viable alternative to laboratory-based measurements.

Identification of products resulting from the biological reduction of 2,4,6-trinitrotoluene, 2,4-dinitrotoluene, and 2,6-dinitrotoluene by Pseudomonas sp
Article Abstract:
Pseudomonas sp. clone A appears to perform two different initial reductive reactions in the metabolism of 2,4,6-trinitrotoluene. One process eliminates a nitro group from the aromatic ring and allows it to be utilized as an N-source while the other generates side products. Specifically, it uses 2,4,6-trinitrotoluene, 2,4-dinitrotoluene and 2,6-dinitrotoluene as an N-source following the enzymatic removal of nitro groups from the aromatic ring.
