Uranium Uptake from Aquaeous Solution by Interaction with Goethite, Lepidocrocite, Muscovite, and Mackinawite: An X-ray absorption Spectroscopy Study
Article Abstract:
Radionuclides enter geological systems and have short and long term consequences. This study examines the binding of uranium to the surfaces of geothite, lepidocrocite, muscovite, and mackinawite. On iron oxides the binding occurs by surface complexation and reaches a saturation point; with iron hydroxides the surfaces do not saturate and uptake increases linearly. XAS spectroscopy reveals the particular surface dynamics between axial oxygen and uranium suggesting some reduction on mackinawite.

Microbial reduction of Fe(III) and sorption/Precipitation of Fe(II) on Shewanella putrefaciens strain CN32
Article Abstract:
The study of the effects of Fe(II) on Fe(III) bioreduction rates is undertaken by evaluating FE(II) biosorption/precipitation and dissimilatory microbial reduction of aqueous Fe(III) with Fe(II) addition. The Shewanella putrefaciens strain CN32 was used.
