Wastewater: Los Angeles agrees to $2-billion sewage spill settlement

Article Abstract:

The City of Los Angeles agreed to settle with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and other parties that require the city to spend an upward of $2 billion to reduce the frequency and volume of sewage spills from its sprawling collection system. Los Angeles will rebuild atleast 488 mi of sewer lines, clean 2,800 mi of sewers annually, improve its efforts to control discharges of grease from restaurants, increase the capacity of its sewer system, and draw up plans for future expansion.

Long-neglected Los Angeles River to be restored

Article Abstract:

The forgotten Los Angeles River in Los Angeles would soon receive attention as a master plan is to be developed to revitalize and reconnect the river with its surrounding communities. The goals of revitalizing effort of the river includes economic development along the river, create recreational areas and wildlife habitat along the waterway and many other efforts.

Storm water: Los Angeles county pursues integrated watershed management

Article Abstract:

Los Angeles County has decided to pursue an integrated watershed management program. The Department of Public Works (DPW) of Los Angeles County has made plans to install a flood drain that would rapidly convey storm-water runoff away from the watershed.
