Wetlands at work

Article Abstract:

This article discusses alternative approaches to convey, store, and filter storm water without resorting to the conventional network of underground pipes. New York City Department of Environmental Protection used the ability of existing waterways for the task so as to preserve the wetlands of the Staten Island while providing adequate drainage.

Former farmland restored to wetlands

Article Abstract:

Details of the Wetlands Reserve Program, a project undertaken by the Natural Resources Conservation Service, which is a federal agency of the United States Department of Agriculture, are presented. The project aims to restore farmlands in Indiana into wetlands that would serve as a habitat for migratory birds.

Storm-water treatment technologies evaluated for urban use

Article Abstract:

Issues discussed concern the technologies used to treat and purify urban storm water runoff containing hazardous pollutants. The plans of the Civil Engineering Research Foundation's Environmental Technology Evaluation Center and other agencies to evaluate water treatment products are detailed.
