What are words worth?
Article Abstract:
The global translation industry's 8 billion pounds sterling turnover in 1998 is set to rise by 5%/y for the foreseeable future. However, translators' livelihoods are being threatened by the development of computers and software which can carry out translation for a fraction of the cost. Compound vision
Article Abstract:
Nicolas Franceschini and his colleagues have designed and built a robot with a vision system based on that of the fly. The robot weighs 10kg and has a compound eye of more than 100 lenses and motion detectors. It utilizes analogue and parallel modes to process visual signals unlike other robots which rely on digital signal processing and solid-state CCD cameras. This achievement of Franceschini poses important implications for all autonomous vehicles.
