When the sand comes

Article Abstract:

Scientists studying the problem of desertification have been sampling isolated wells in the center of China's sandy Gobi Desert in an attempt to find the source of the Gobi's water. The evidence suggests the desert's groundwater may be recharged from modern precipitation as well as from "ancient" water. The research may help the Gobi's residents by increasing groundwater exploitation.
