A placebo-controlled trial of a proprietary extract of North American ginseng (CVT-E002) to prevent acute respiratory illness in institutionalized older

Article Abstract:

A comparative analysis of a proprietary extract of American ginseng, CVT-E002, with placebo in preventing acute respiratory illness (ARI) in an institutional setting during the influenza season is given. The results reveal that CVT-E002 is safe, well tolerated and potentially effective for preventing ARI due to influenza.

Emergence and transmission of amantadine-resistant influenza A in a nursing home

Article Abstract:

A large outbreak of influenza A (H3N2) in a nursing home during a prospective study of antiviral prophylaxis is reported. A study to prospectively detect amantadine-resistant influenza when amantadine was used for influenza A outbreak control is presented.

Long-term use of oseltamivir for the prophylaxis of influenza in a vaccinated frail older population

Article Abstract:

Research presented concerns the tolerability and safety of oseltamivir use in frail elderly to combat clinical influenza. Findings suggest that a dose of 75 mg of oral oseltamivir once a day for six weeks prevents influenza in vaccinated frail elderly.
