Asian ageing: contexts of change

Article Abstract:

The nations of Asia, where community harmony and familial interdependence have long been honored, are now facing far ranging changes due to global currents. The dramatic demographic transitions position Asia among the fastest ageing nations in the world, and in addition to this, there have been vast economic and policy challenges affecting familial, social and cultural relationships.

The shifting sands of time: Results from the English Longitudinal Study of Ageing on multiple transitions in later life

Article Abstract:

The English Longitudinal Study of Ageing (ELSA) is the largest study of older people in England and includes the data on the demographic, employment, housing and health characteristics of over 11000 people aged 50 and above. The transitions over five dimensions amongst the over 50s and the relations between the different transitions are explored.

Social capital- A potential tool for analysis of the relationship between ageing individuals and their social environment

Article Abstract:

The understanding of the concept of social capital leads to the development of better economic policies for the older people who contribute nil towards the economic productivity. The social networks of the older people build channels for the social capital to flow through the groups of old and disabled people.
