Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale (CES-D) as a screening instrument for depression among community-residing older adults
Article Abstract:
Clinicians tend to have problems in identifying depression among older adults, and a survey of 1,005 adults living in the community has been carried out to assess the usefulness of a screening procedure. The procedure is the Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale (CES-D). There are a number of factors such as functional impairment which it was feared could affect the efficacy of the CES-D, but this did not appear to be the case. It is also possible to use a shortened version of the CES-D as an efficient screening tool for older adults.

Individual differences in stimulus intensity modulation and its relationship to two styles of depression in older adults
Article Abstract:
A study of two groups of older adults suffering from depression with and without manic symptoms revealed that reduction and augmentation were linked respectively to the two cases. The Kinesthetic Aftereffect (KEA) task used in the study can effectively distinguish the two types of depression. The KAE task, the NEO Personality Inventory and the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory were used to recognize subjects with and without manic symptoms. The validity of the Strelau Temperament Inventory is discussed.

Treatment of depression in low-income older adults
Article Abstract:
The purpose of the study was to compare cognitive-behavioral group therapy, clinical case management, and their combination to treat depression in low-income older adults (60+). The findings suggest that disadvantaged older adults with depression benefit from increased access to social services either alone or combined with psychotherapy.
