Detection of delirium in the intensive care unit: comparison of Confusion Assessment Method for the Intensive Care Unit with Confusion Assessment Method ratings
Article Abstract:
A comparison of Confusion Assessment Method (CAM) and Confusion Assessment Method for the Intensive Care Unit (CAM-ICU) ratings method for diagnosing delirium in elderly ICU patients is presented. Findings indicate that CAM-ICU is not as effective as CAM in detecting delirium. About 68 percent of the sample was found to have delirium using CAM ratings while only 50 percent could be detected using CAM-ICU ratings.
