Disease, disability, and age in cognitively intact seniors: results from the Canadian study of health and aging
Article Abstract:
Research indicates that functional disabilities are exhibited by almost double the number of cognitively intact people aged 85 or older than in people aged 65 to 84. Disability is presented in the elderly even when there is no explanatory disease, suggesting that disability avoidance would not be greatly achieved through disease prevention. Total, severe or moderate disability could only be explained by increasing age among those aged 85 and over, with this group also experiencing problems with everyday activities such as preparing food, shopping and walking.

Cardiovascular oscillations: from a physiological curiosity to a probe of aging and health?
Article Abstract:
Fluckiger et al (1999) have come up with convincing evidence that aging is linked to changes in several parameters of cardiovascular regulation. They report significant impairment in heart rate variability and in the absolute values of low frequency and high frequency measures. The influence of aging it seems is progressive and continuous across the six decades examined. Fluckiger et al's research opens up the possibility that cardiovascular variability could be used to probe aging and health.
