Age-related changes in binocular vision: detection of noise-masked targets in young and old observers

Article Abstract:

A study of psychometric function and detection thresholds 10 young and 10 old adults helps analyze the influence of aging on binocular unmasking under binoptic and dichoptic conditions. Younger adults detect the signals better than older adults even when the stimulus is visually degraded, suggesting the presence of specific mechanisms which hinder the visual abilities of older adults.
