Elder abuse in Finland
Article Abstract:
Finland has provided effective and subsidized social and health care services for its aged population, which grew rapidly in the 1980s. Two important epidemiological studies explored the extent of elder abuse in Finland in the late 1980s. Results indicate the aged are victims of both family abuse and violence from strangers. Researchers have linked the problem of elder abuse to alcoholism, physical and mental stress, recession and internal migration. The Federation of mother-child shelters has been a major force in intervention and prevention.

'Elder abuse' as an innovation to Australia: a critical overview
Article Abstract:
Inspired by the social policies for the aged in the US and the UK, Australia has made a conscientious effort at understanding the ramifications of the increase in its aged population. Social policies for the aged who have been victims of neglect and exploitation are on the government's agenda, but lack of financial resources are drawback. Research initiatives have made some headway in defining the problem, but further work is needed.
