Ethics and elder mistreatment: uniting protocol with practice
Article Abstract:
Ethics for elder-serving practitioners need to be demystified and made a part of the treatment decision-making process. Ethical practice for practitioners includes information, uncovering all of the protocols covering acting in a specific situation, followed by deliberations and negotiations regarding the differing ethical realities. The final step in the decision-making process involves promotion, support implementation and adjusting to the new rules. The need for multidisciplinary involvement in the treatment is discussed.

Mistreatment of Vietnamese elderly by their families in the United States
Article Abstract:
Cases of abuse in elder Vietnamese American immigrants are not as well documented as US incidents due to differences in cultural traditions. Vietnamese elders sponsored by their sons or daughters feel isolated from the younger generation due to language barriers and different values. The reluctance of Vietnamese elders to disclose instances of verbal or emotional abuse to social workers has made documentation of such cases more difficult.

Mistreatment of the elderly in Greece
Article Abstract:
The aging of the Greek population and thee migration to urban areas have made the issue of elder abuse a matter of concern. A large-scale study in the late 1980s examined passive and active mistreatment of the aged. Results indicate that verbal abuse is most common, but that physical abuse also occurs. More research is required to ascertain the extent of this problem and to determine how its underlying causes can be addressed.
