Generativity and moral development as predictors of value-socialization narratives for young persons across the adult life span: From lessons learned to stories shared
Article Abstract:
Storytelling as a method value socialization has been little researched. A study examined storytelling by adults for adolescents about past value-learning experiences. Stronger generative concern was a predictor of an increased sense of having learned important lessons from past events, of stronger adult value socialization investment and of more engaging narratives. Higher rates of moral reasoning were positively linked to generative concern.

Moral and social reasoning and perspective taking in later life: a longitudinal study
Article Abstract:
Moral reasoning stage levels in older and middle-aged adults remain unchanged over time, though moral perspective taking decreases in older adults. The complexity of social reasoning on interpersonal issues decreases in both the age groups. Social-cognitive support, higher education levels, and better health prevent the decline in socio-cognitive reasoning in mature adults.
