Acceptability to patients of a home hospital
Article Abstract:
Many elderly patients hospitalized for acute medical conditions would prefer to receive treatment at home. Researchers surveyed 87 patients hospitalized for pneumonia, congestive heart failure, or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease about a hypothetical home hospitalization program. Seventy-nine percent of patients felt they would be more comfortable at home, and 63% felt the risk of infection was lower with home treatment. Most would choose the option of home care if offered, and 60% believed the care would be as good as in-hospital care.
