HIV and aging as a model for immunosenescence
Article Abstract:
Immunology plays a key role in the more rapid progression of HIV infection in older persons. There are five hypothesis offered as to the possible immunological mechanisms behind age-associated acceleration in HIV progression. These include the greater number of virus produced as an individual gets older, greater infection of CD4+ T-cells, faster destruction of cells, the diminishing efficiency of replacing cells and older persons' less effective anti-HIV immune activity.

Aging process is accompanied by increase of transglutaminase C
Article Abstract:
Research indicates that Transglutaminase C (TGase C) could play a role in the cellular aging process. The level and activity of TGase C protein in endogenously aged human red blood cells and in vitro multipassage human primary fibroblasts increased in response to aging. An organ-specific TGase C expression pattern in aging was identified via in vivo studies of the brain and liver tissues of various-aged Sprague-Dawley rats.
