Individual differences in 16-year memory changes
Article Abstract:
Some 82 adults, with ages ranging from 55 to 81 years old, were studied to determine whether age and gender, as well as 16-year declines in reasoning and vocabulary, could predict 16-year memory changes. Results showed that declines in text recall may stem from being older and from declines in reasoning, while male gender and declines in vocabulary can be reliable predictors of declines in list recall. These imply that age, gender and changes in abilities could predict declines on memory tasks.

Understanding unfamiliar words in young, young-old, and old-old adults: inferential processing and the abstraction-deficit hypothesis
Article Abstract:
The study suggests that older adults derive interpretations of unfamiliar words that are less precise than those of young adults. The results conducted suggest that age differences in meaning derivation may be related to inferential processing that is overgeneralized, providing support for the abstraction-deficit hypothesis.

Understanding unfamiliar words: the influence of processing resources, vocabulary knowledge, and age
Article Abstract:
Issues concerning a study of the influence of age and ability in the understanding and defining of unfamiliar words are discussed. Experiments revealed that older people have more difficulty in defining unfamiliar words than younger people.
