Maintenance requirements for dietary protein in 11- and 18-month-old male rats
Article Abstract:
Analysis of the effects of age on the need for body protein, as a function of lean body mass, body weight and carcass and serum protein, reveals an increase in body fat in older animals consuming diets with a high protein content. An increase in serum protein in old and young rats results from an increase in the level of dietary protein. The increases in lean body mass and total carcass protein with dietary protein do not vary much with age. However, detailed studies indicate the age-related variations in the need for dietary protein.

Adrenocortical hyporesponsiveness and glucocorticoid feedback resistance in old male Brown Norway rats
Article Abstract:
A study of the effect of aging on the adrenocortical function of male Brown Norway rats between six and 30 months of age indicates that the older rats possess enhanced levels of pituitary adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) due to stress, which leads to impairment of adrenocortical functions. Corticosterone (CORT) output in the adrenal cortex reduces and the rats are unable to inhibit stress-induced increases in the levels of ACTH and CORT.

Exercise reduces age-dependent decrease in platelet protein kinase C activity and translocation
Article Abstract:
Investigations of blood platelets of young and old humans reveal a decrease in the activity and translocation of platelet protein kinase C (PKC) with aging, indicating PKC translocation and activity to be biological markers. This decrease in PKC activity during senescence can be regulated by aerobic exercises.
