Oral cobalamin for pernicious anemia: back from the verge of extinction
Article Abstract:
High-dose oral cobalamin therapy was long ago shown to be effective for pernicious anemia and other cobalamin deficiency states. Physicians and patients feel oral therapy would be useful, but a 1989 survey found physicians were generally unaware of usefulness of cobalamin therapy. A study has been made of physician awareness and use of oral cobalamin since 1989. Most internists are still not aware of that treatment option, although awareness and use have increased substantially.
